I’m Leo and I make collage art and mixed media illustration as ordinary shapes.
My work is inspired by colour combinations, snippets of conversation and found materials. My style is flat, bold, colourful, graphic and contingent. Some people call it joyful. I’m happy with that.
A maximalist fighting with a minimalist, I love ephemera and texture – but am similarly delighted by a few shapes hanging out on a blank page.
I find my source material from all over, billboards, floristry paper, envelopes, newspaper supplements and secondhand books. I like to include text in my work too. Women often feature.
Words and pictures are equally important to me. As well as being a collagist, I’m a communications consultant and writer with a background in art, education and book publishing. I’ve written for universities, publishing houses, agencies and small businesses.
I live in London with my husband (a crossword fanatic) and craft-loving daughters in a house full of paper.
